Has your Christmas planning begun?

It's heading to that time of year again! Have you too already started to hear carols in the shopping centres. I absolutely love Christmas and I love celebrating it big time! Presents. Food. Family. Yes, yes, yes! Let's get the party started. But there is something a little disconcerting when one hears Christmas cheer in September, isn't there?

And I've finally figured out why that is. I love a good Christmas carol and will happily hum along but my mind begins to buzz in resistance with an almost radio static that something isn't quite right. And it’s not right because the more I hum the more my mind becomes aware that I am not ready for Christmas.

With every jingle of a bell an extra item adds to the bottom of my imagined list.

But for all of you who love to make, sew or quilt your own gifts I've got the fabric for you. And if you like quilting you're in for a treat of 9 new fabric designs.

As a child I questioned Santa's reality after seeing more than one in the city on the same day. My mother didn't disabuse me of my doubt and I wasn't really raised to believe in Santa, nonetheless one thing I loved about them was their big fake curly beards. And this year as I daydreamed of Christmas designs I became infatuated with the idea of creating a Art Nouveau style collection. I particularly wanted swirly whirly whippy beards.

Initially I hand drew ideas. I then used these to paint a bunch of motifs.

Red is absolutely my favourite colour so you may be wondering why everything is in grey. And yes if you are wondering if I painted it all in grey, indeed I did. Why? You ask.

Because I was dreaming of coloured Christmas. Makes no sense, right? Bear with me. No truly I was dreaming of a certain colour palette for this year's fabric collection. I've learned the hard way that trying to paint a lot of motifs that are going to go together with watercolours can be super hard to match on fabric. So instead of painting them in my chosen colours the way I solved this was to paint them all in grey and then recolour them in Procreate with the palette I chose.

Is blue your favourite colour? Joy to you! This year's fabric palette has baby blue, navy, and green, mint and of course red. Red. Red. Red.

The Collection

We've got the hero of them all with Swirly Christmas, some Christmas Cheer, lots of Santas in green, red, white and blue, trees, enough presents to go around and plenty of sleighs to transport them.

Head on over to my Christmas collection at Spoonflower to order your fabric and let the making begin. Some but not all of the fabrics will be also available at Raspberry Creek Fabrics
